Growing Our Local Economy
What's the issue?
Growing our economy includes supporting our local businesses while also attracting larger ones that bring plenty of good, high-paying jobs. Phyllis’ dedication to these ideas will make District 3 live up to its potential of being a thriving hub of commerce.
Why is it important:
Without investing in economic development, our part of San Antonio will get left behind. To improve the livelihoods of our neighbors, we need to foster sustainable growth while preserving the culture of our community.
Phyllis Got It Done:
- Championed the development of an educated and empowered workforce through programs like the Legacy Leadership Initiative, that empowers our young leaders of tomorrow.
- Brought significant investments to the Brooks City Base Development which has brought new businesses and created good paying jobs.
Looking ahead:
- Promote workforce education through programs such as Ready To Work, Legacy Leadership Initiative, and local institutions of higher education.
- Ensure that businesses large and small have the incentives and resources to open and expand while remaining headquartered here in the Southside. This will keep commute times down and allow for re-investment in our neighborhoods.
- Attract tourists to D3 and make sure that our parks and local landmarks bring enough consumers to fuel our tourism industry.
